Established

Human trials support this nutrient moving this system for a typical person, not just a lab or animal mechanism.

Emerging

A plausible mechanism with mixed, preliminary, or limited-population evidence — often shown mainly in people who were already deficient.

Nutrients involved in weight management

  • Calcium Emerging

    The main mineral in bones and teeth; also needed for muscle contraction, nerve signalling, and normal blood clotting.

    Caution: Calcium is one of the few nutrients whose room to maneuver narrows with age instead of widening: after 50 a woman's recommended intake rises to 1,200 mg while her upper limit drops to 2,000 mg, closing the gap from both directions at once. That is also the age group where calcium supplements are most widely used. Count what your food already provides before adding more, and ask your clinician what daily total makes sense for you.

  • Fiber Established

    Supports healthy digestion and regularity, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps you feel full and keeps blood sugar steadier after a meal.

  • Vitamin D Emerging

    Helps your body absorb calcium for strong bones, and supports muscle and immune function. Your skin also makes it from sunlight.
